About Us | Rangoli India
Thirty-Five Years. Eight Stores. One Standard.
On the 9th of February 1990, Mr. Mohan Kumar Jain opened Rangoli at 97 Park Street, Kolkata — not with fanfare or a marketing campaign, but with an exceptionally curated collection of sarees and a single conviction: that Indian women deserved beautiful textiles, honestly priced and sold by someone who actually knew what they were talking about.
That conviction has not changed in 35 years. Everything else has grown around it.
Where It Started
Park Street in Kolkata is not a random address. It is one of the city's great streets — and in 1990, opening an ethnic wear store there was a statement about what kind of brand Rangoli intended to be.
There were no shortcuts. No machine-made approximations passed off as the real thing. Just Banarasi, silk, Gadwal, Kota, Khadi and embroidery — each piece selected by someone who understood the difference between a handloom original and an imitation. Kolkata noticed. And Kolkata has a long memory.
The Park Street store has stood at the same address for over three decades. That is not something that happens without the product earning it.
A Name That Travelled
What began on one street in one city is now a household name across four states. Women in Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Bengaluru reach for Rangoli the same way Kolkata did — when there is a wedding to dress for, a Durga Puja look to find or a piece of silk worth investing in.
In Hyderabad, across our Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills stores, a South Indian customer found something the local market had not always offered: the finest handloom weaves from the North, curated with knowledge and sold without pretension. In Vijayawada and Bengaluru, the same story followed. The brand travelled because the product deserved to.
This is not reputation built through advertising. It is thirty-five years of never sending a product out the door that was not worth the price on its tag.
The Second Chapter
Mr. Nikhil Jain joined the business with a clear-eyed view of where Indian ethnic wear was heading. He brought formal retail strategy to a brand built on product instinct — expanding into South India and building the online business that now ships to customers across the globe.
Under his leadership, Rangoli evolved from a saree destination into a complete ethnic wear house: lehengas, salwar suits, kurtis, gowns, Indo-Western silhouettes and a dedicated menswear brand. The online store carries over 1,000 products, curated personally and restocked continuously.
The standard that has guided both generations is the same. If the product is genuinely good, everything else follows. Rangoli has never competed on price. It has always competed on quality.
What We Believe
Rangoli is a Kolkata brand. That matters more than it might seem. This city has always taken textiles seriously — a culture of women who know what they are looking at when they pick up a piece of silk and can tell a handloom original from a factory copy by feel alone. That is the customer Rangoli was built for. That sensibility runs through everything we do.
We source directly from weavers and manufacturers wherever possible. We know where our fabrics come from. We can verify what they are. When we say pure silk, it is. When we say handloom Banarasi, it is. In a market where these claims are made freely and verified rarely, this is not a small thing.
We are not the largest ethnic wear retailer in India. We have never tried to be. What we have tried to be — for 35 years without interruption — is the most trusted one for the customer who cares about the difference.
Our Brands
Youve — Designer and celebration wear for the woman who wants to be remembered. Sarees, lehengas, gowns and Indo-Western pieces for weddings, receptions and every occasion that calls for something above the ordinary.
Riwayat — Rangoli's bridal label. Launched for the woman who believes her wedding day deserves its own standard — not just a beautiful outfit, but one chosen with the same care and craft that has defined this brand for 35 years. Riwayat exists because a bride's moment is not the occasion to compromise.
Ranjh — Menswear for the modern Indian man who dresses with intention. Kurtas, sherwanis, bandhgalas, Nehru jackets and kurta jacket sets — rooted in tradition and cut for today.
Eight Stores. Four States.
Each store is individually curated for its city and its customers. No two Rangoli stores carry identical inventory — because a woman dressing for a wedding in Kolkata and one in Hyderabad are making different choices, for different occasions and different aesthetics. Our buying reflects that.
